Fourth Annual DMACC 3-on-3 Basketball Classic
Posted 6/9/08

Basketball players from across the state will be showing off their skills and helping to raise scholarship money for Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) when DMACC West Campus hosts its fourth annual Wild, Wild West 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament scheduled for Sat., July 26.

“This is our biggest and most important fundraiser,” says Dr. Tony Paustian, provost of DMACC’s West Campus. “Without scholarships, made possible by this event, there are dozens o DMACC District Secondf students who wouldn’t have an opportunity to attend college.”

Paustian says the Wild, Wild West tournament creates a positive economic impact by attracting hundreds of players and fans to Central Iowa. The 2007 3-on-3 tournament raised more than $30,000 for student scholarships. This year’s goal is $40,000.

The event is open to players of all ages and abilities. Teams will be grouped by gender, age, ability, size and playing experience, with each team guaranteed at least two games. The tournament is limited to the first 120 teams.

Registered high school officials will be used for all games.

Custom-made medals will be awarded to the three top teams in each division.

The event will kick off with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. on July 26 with the first game beginning at 8:30 a.m. Several events will be offered throughout the day for fans and players.

Teams can register on-line at www.wildwest3on3.com.  Registration is $80 per team. The postmark registration deadline is July 16. The online registration deadline is July 18.
